Ever since I moved away from my family, I miss them most when I call home and hear laughter and conversations in the background. Since the main phone is in the kitchen, the background noise reveals that everyone is hanging out there, and that something is simmering on the stove top. How, in those moments, I desperately wish to join them!
The desire to be at home in the kitchen, however, goes beyond the savory smell of spiced potatoes and buttered rotis; it also comes from the comfort that is felt in a space that generally holds laughter and connections. Some of my fondest conversations have taken place amongst women in the kitchen, and have created some of the strongest bonds I have ever known.
So, while recognizing the irreplacability of physical connections, I hope to see The Parontha Club become a space of comfort for women. I hope it entices dialogue and discussions amongst us all – especially for those craving alloo paronthas :)!
